Membership

How to join

Gold Coast Libraries membership gives you access to a world of content and experiences, both in our libraries and online. Visit, borrow, download, discover and enjoy.

Membership is free for Gold Coasters and if you're a visitor, sign up for temporary membership while you're visiting our city!

Temporary online-only membership

If you can't get to a library, Gold Coast residents can join as a temporary online-only member for instant access to our great collection of digital resources.

Your request will be processed in two working days and your temporary online membership number will be emailed to you. You can then start downloading and streaming to your preferred device.

If you joined as a temporary member, please visit your nearest library with two forms of ID and we will be able to upgrade your membership as long as you still meet our membership conditions. See below for details of acceptable ID.

Under 18

You'll need to bring your parent/carer who needs two forms of ID for themselves, plus one form of ID which confirms their relationship to you, such as a Medicare card.

Timeshare owners

You'll need to bring your certificate of timeshare ownership and proof of your permanent residential address.

Membership for visitors

Visitors can sign up for temporary membership, ideal for holidays or short trips to the Gold Coast.

Members of neighbouring Queensland library services - Scenic Rim, Brisbane, Logan and Redland Councils - can join Gold Coast Libraries as a reciprocal member. Other Queensland residents can join on a six-month membership.

For interstate residents here for a longer stay, we also offer fee-based membership with the same benefits that locals enjoy.

Terms & conditions

Your library membership card gives you access to many benefits, so you'll need it for most library transactions. Online services need your card number and PIN.

As a member, you have rights and obligations to help us deliver a great library service for all our members. These include taking care of items you borrow, and returning items when they're due back.

We don't charge overdue fees. If you lose an item, we'll ask you to cover its cost.

Overdue items

  • At a week overdue, we'll send you a reminder.
  • At four weeks, we'll send you another reminder and you won't be able to use your card for transactions including the eLibrary.
  • If an item is eight weeks overdue, we'll send you a further notice.
  • If the item isn't returned by 10 weeks, we'll consider it lost and ask you to cover its replacement cost.

Lost or damaged items

  • We know that accidents happen, so if you damage an item you've borrowed, we'll ask you to cover the cost of repair or replacement.
  • If you lose an item you've borrowed, we'll ask you to cover its replacement cost.
