Temporary signs for non-profit organisations

You might need a licence or development approval to display a temporary advertising sign on the Gold Coast. If you do need approval, the sign must be approved before it is displayed. All signs must meet our safety and amenity standards.

The following advertising device (sign) licences apply only to non-profit organisations. For more information about advertising device licences applicable to commercial businesses, please visit Advertising devices and Book City street light banners.

Persons or organisations/companies applying to be the licence holder must be a legal entity such as a person, incorporated club, or company. A business name, partnership, trust and non-incorporated clubs are not legal entities. You must provide the full names of all proposed licensees and if address and contact details differ for each licensee.

Temporary banner

You will need a licence to install a temporary banner at one of our banner sites to promote a short-term event such as a fete, fair, sporting club sign on day or similar event. To be eligible to apply for a licence, you must be either a registered charity, non-profit organisation or a community group.

Banner conditions:

  • No commercial or corporate advertising is to be displayed on the banner.
  • No business applications accepted.
  • Banners are to be located at approved City of Gold Coast sites only (see below).
  • Banners are to be constructed of vinyl, canvas or similar flexible material only.
  • A maximum approval period of 4 weeks for each permit.
  • Banner must be placed within 5 kilometres of the venue of the activity advertised.
  • Banners are to be a maximum 5 metres x 1 metre in single face area and must advertise the community event/activity only.
  • The banner is to be erected by the applicant using rope only to fix to the fences/poles on the allocated site.

The banner site has 2 large poles at 6.2 metres apart x 4 metres high.

The banner is to be 5 square metres, installed with sturdy rope tied to poles.

The banner must be placed within 5 kilometres of the venue of the advertised activity.

Available only to advertise community events with the Labrador area only.

Corner of Gold Coast Springbrook Road & Somerset Drive

The banner site has 2 large poles at 6.2 metres apart x 3 metres high.

The banner is to be 5 square metres, installed with sturdy rope tied to poles.

Available only to advertise community events within the Mudgeeraba area.

Maximum period of 2 weeks Sunday to Monday.

Installed on the green fence opposite Giltrap Park on Musgrave Street. Two small banners can fit.

Located on the northern side of Ada Bell Way. Banners installed at a length of 2.4 metres on fences.

One local event (left) and 1 off-site event (right). The banner site has 3 poles at 2.5 metres apart x 2.2 metres high.

Banners can be maximum of 1 metre x 2 metres and installed with sturdy rope tied to poles.

Ormeau – 2 banners

Community Centre 3 Cuthbert Drive, Ormeau

The banner site has four poles at 2.95 metres apart x 2.4 metres high. Banners can be maximum of 1 metre x 2.5 metres and installed with sturdy rope tied to poles:

  • one banner for on-site activity
  • one banner for off-site activity.

Temporary promotional sign

You will need a licence to install a temporary promotional sign in our road reserves. This type of advertising device can be used to promote a non-profit or community event. It can be displayed for up to 28 days. You can display signs at a maximum of 4 locations per event/application.

To advertise on State–controlled roads, contact the Department of Transport and Main Roads for approval.
