Burleigh Heads peel back project

  • Project typeOcean, beaches & waterways
  • Project schedule16 June to 24 June 2021
Seawall construction

The City of Gold Coast will be undertaking public seawall condition assessments along the Burleigh Heads beach foreshore. Our seawalls are constructed of large boulders buried under the sand to protect infrastructure from coastal hazards.

The works will involve a series of excavations, known as peel backs. The peel backs allow engineers to assess the condition of the existing seawall and identify areas for improvements, ensuring existing walls are not rebuilt unnecessarily.

  • Works will be completed during the day between 6am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
  • There may be construction noise and minor traffic delays at times.
  • Pedestrian diversions will be in place for the duration of the works.
  • Residents and visitors will still be able to access the beach, however some beach access paths may be closed during works for public safety.
  • We will do our best to minimise construction impacts and inconvenience.
